In the summer of 2007, Mardy Cobb received an email from somewhere in Kenya, Africa asking for help. So he began a series of questions, calls, emails, follow-ups, and seeking whatever 3rd party verifications that were findable. It took a long time, but, about a year after contact, he had done all that could be done from the USA.
So Mardy went to Kenya in 2008, and met the original contacts, and was introduced to 27 orphans. Some of the children were orphans because of political strife and tribal fighting in the last election; others were orphans due to parents falling ill and dying. It was abundantly clear that they were sincere and needed help. Looking at children, Mardy was reminded of scripture:
It was at this moment that the concept of Child of God Rescue was born.
After returning home and working diligently, the non-profit organization, Child of God Rescue was launched. The title for this effort was chosen because of our belief in the value of children and the innate connection that exists between God and all those little ones who appear to have no one. Our sole aim is helping fatherless and orphan children thrive. Our motto is a version of the saying made famous by Maimonides, “Give a man a fish, and he will be hungry tomorrow. Teach a man to fish, and he will eat for the rest of his life.” With lots of optimism and prayer, plans were made to help orphans build a life. Our journey continues to this day.
